Our longest standing fundraiser is our annual duck race, which takes place during the Hudson Community Fest in June. We sell raffle tickets that have a corresponding number to a plastic duck that gets dumped into the Assabet River from the Private First Class Kenneth M. Thibault Memorial Bridge on Washington Street in Hudson. Hundreds of these little plastic ducks float down the river to right before the Broad Street bridge where our Rotarians are in the river to collect them. The first five ducks to make it down win cash prizes. The duck race has become a premier event in town that most people know about and love, especially the children. We are able to raise money to fund multiple scholarships to high school students at both Hudson High School and Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School. We look forward to this every year, and we know the residents of Hudson do too.
In 2018, we re-named our event to the Skip Conrad Memorial Duck Race in honor of long time Hudson Rotarian Skip Conrad. He was monumental in keeping this race alive and thriving all these years. Look for us around town selling tickets starting in late March/early April. Some of the spots we can be seen at usually are the Post Office, Robinson’s Hardware, Shaw’s, Stop and Shop, Bacon’s Wine and Spirits, Victor’s 50’s Diner and others.
