In 2015, the Hudson Rotary Club dedicated a memorial in downtown Hudson outside of Town Hall to Paul Cellucci, former governor of Massachusetts. Paul was born in Hudson and graduated from Hudson Catholic School. He held various positions in government for 3 decades, including being governor from 1999-2001.
Paul announced that he was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease) in 2011. He died from complications from the disease 2 years later.
In addition to dedicated the memorial benches, our club was able to raise an additional $10,000, which we donated to the UMass ALS Cellucci Fund, which was created on Paul’s behalf to advance critical research breakthroughs in ALS.
This was a very proud moment for our club. As you can see from the pictures below, we had a great turnout on a wonderful day for the memorial dedication. We hope the memorial will keep Paul’s name alive, and will aid in the fight to find a cure for this disease.
